Danske Bank Ulster Colleges MacRory Cup Quarter Final St Patrick’s 3-07 St Macartan’s 2-04 By JOHN GRAHAM SAINT Macartan’s College’s MacRory Cup famine will move into a 59th year after a disappointing quarter-final defeat against holders St. Pat’s, Maghera in Armagh last Friday night. Having won the MacCormack Cup late last year, hopes were raised that an experienced Sem team could bridge the long gap, but they failed to hit those heights in a fairly scrappy game. The north-Monaghan school had been prolific throughout the league section, but they managed just three scores in each half ...

Monaghan 1-12 Roscommon 1-08 By COLM SHALVEY MONAGHAN got off the mark in the Allianz Hurling League with an excellent win over Roscommon at the Pádraig Pearses club grounds last Sunday. Having let a decent lead slip in the closing stages of their opening game at home to Longford, Monaghan were clear underdogs against a Roscommon side who had made a winning start and who have held the edge in the counties’ recent meetings, but the visitors ripped up the form book with a much-improved performance. Monaghan were only behind once for less than three ...

Monaghan 2-13 Cork 0-13 By MARY GRIMES REIGNING All Ireland senior champions Cork (with full points from their first two fixtures of 2014) were forced to play second fiddle (0-13 to 2-13) to John Morrison’s Monaghan ladies in a pulsating round three NFL tie last weekend. In exacting a small measure of revenge for last year’s Croke Park defeat, Monaghan showed a much-changed line-out but still proved the masters on the day. Team-manager Morrison had no less than five Monaghan players making their debut against the Cork ladies with Charlotte Brady, Joanne Geogheghan, Anita Newell, ...

BY COLM SHALVEY Sunday’s AIB All-Ireland Club Intermediate Football Championship Final will live long in the memory of all who were in Croke Park to see Truagh reach the Promised Land at the end of an eight-month championship campaign. An incredible game produced thrills and spills throughout, with some score-taking out of the top drawer. 3-30 of the total of 4-34 came from open play, with Truagh hitting a very impressive 2-19 from play, but the numbers don’t even tell half the story of a thriller which saw both teams create a ...

New county team-manager John Morrisson and his charges experienced disappointment last weekend when their scheduled Tesco Homegrown NFL Round One fixture against Dublin was postponed. As the country got battered by strong winds and heavy rain, it didn’t come as a complete surprise to anyone that the pitch at Aughnamullen was sadly deemed unplayable. It is anticipated that the fixture will be re-scheduled for a later date, possibly the end of February or sometime in March. Laois are the opponents this coming weekend in Round 2 and with games with Monaghan being sometimes ...
