MONAGHAN V DONEGAL BY JOHN GRAHAM Meetings between Monaghan and Donegal in season defining matches are becoming something of a regular item as the sides meet again this Sunday in the final of the Allianz football league division 2 in Croke Park. Both sides have already been promoted to division 1 for next season so on the face of it the only thing to be sorted out on Sunday is the destination of the silverware, but there is a lot more at stake than that in this division 2 final. Monaghan and Donegal ...

By Colm Shalvey Monaghan’s Allianz National Football League Division Two Final against Donegal, Malachy O’Rourke will be hoping to have as near a clean bill of health as possible for his panel come April 27. There has already been one casualty, as Gavin Doogan has been ruled out for six weeks with a broken bone in his foot. Corduff 1-09 Donaghmoyne 0-14 By KEVIN CARNEY A seven point lead at half-time was all the leg-up Donaghmoyne needed to go on and bag the spoils at the expense of IFL hosts Corduff on Saturday evening last. In a game that had a lot of championship fervour about it, Corduff fought the gallant fight but the challenge posed by a substantial early deficit allied to the loss of a player for the final quarter was a double whammy which conspired to cripple their ambitions. Donaghmoyne travelled to their near-neighbours in sleeves-rolled-up mode and within 11 ...

MONAGHAN LOSE TO MAYO BUT STILL MAKE THE NFL SEMI-FINALS

By Mary Grimes Last Sunday saw our county seniors have a rare off-day as they went down by 0-9 to 0-12 to Mayo in round seven of the NFL. The county’s defeat at the weekend doesn’t however alter the fact that Monaghan have already qualified for the national league semi-final on April 27th next when they will meet Dublin. Meanwhile our county under 14s had no better luck than our seniors on Saturday last. The girls took on a very strong and well drilled Cavan side in round one of the competition and came ...

MONAGHAN TURN SPOTLIGHT ON THE DIVISION 2 FINAL AFTER PROMOTION

“Job done” would be the two words that sum up Monaghan’s Allianz National Football League Division Two win over Galway last Sunday. by COLM SHALVEY Monaghan needed only to avoid a heavy defeat to secure a top-two place and the way other results went meant they would have been promoted regardless on their head-to-head record against Meath, but the way they dug out another win showed the character of this team. A highly-motivated Galway side, who needed a result to ensure they stayed up, had kicked three unanswered points to draw ...

MONAGHAN PROMOTION

Monaghan 0-13 Galway 0-12 By JOHN GRAHAM A draw would have been sufficient to ensure Monaghan’s promotion to division 1 and a place in the division 2 final for the third time in nine years but Paul Finlay put the icing on the cake for what has been a very rewarding league campaign when he clinched victory with a point two minutes into stoppage time after Galway had fought back to parity having been behind from the opening minutes of the match. Galway came to Clones with five points from their six outings and ...
