Margaret McCabe from Lisacullion, Shantonagh, Castleblayney was the lucky winner of the holiday to Turkey competition run by The Northern Standard in association with Sunway Holidays and O’Hanrahan Travel to mark the launch of our new e-paper. MONAGHAN COUNTY COUNCIL LAUNCHES THE 2015 GUM LITTER TASKFORCE CAMPAIGN

The 2015 Gum Litter Taskforce (GLT) gum litter education campaign was launched in Carrickmacross this week by Cathoirleach of Monaghan County Council Cllr. Noel Keelan. The launch follows an agreement between the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government and Food and Drink Industry Ireland (FDII) representing the gum industry, to fund a national gum litter awareness programme from 2015 – 2017. The agreement includes new agreed mechanisms to further enhance and reinvigorate the campaign and represents a multi-million euro commitment by industry to tackling the issue of littered gum. Bishop of Clogher Most Rev Liam MacDaid officiated at the ordination in St Macartan’s Cathedral in Monaghan Town on Sunday last of Fr Leo Creelman. Fr Creelman (51) is a native of Coleraine in County Derry. He is one of nine children, five daughters and four sons of Harry and Philomena Creelman. Michael Fisher The proposed merger of Town of Monaghan Co-Op and Ballyrashane Co-Op in North Antrim has been strongly endorsed by shareholders of both Societies. There will now be a three weeks cooling-off period before the plans are put before the members again for formal approval. MONAGHAN BUS ÉIREANN INSPECTOR PADDY GOLLOGLY RETIRES

Michael Fisher Bus Éireann Inspector Paddy Gollogly waved farewell for the last time as the Letterkenny express pulled out of Monaghan bus station on Tuesday afternoon. Since 1992 Paddy has been the Inspector at the depot, supervising all passing services at this busy stop, which is also used by Translink cross-border coaches from Derry and Armagh. After 44 years in the job, Paddy was hanging up his Inspector’s hat and looking forward to an active retirement.
