Lakeland Dairies and Fane Valley co-operatives this week announced details of two new joint ventures projected to yield a combined annual income of €845 million. Monaghan Rose, Michelle Caulfield has been touring around Ireland this week as part of the International Rose of Tralee Festival 2015. Having visited Dublin, Roscommon, Leitrim and Limerick with her fellow contestants, Michelle arrives in Tralee tomorrow, Friday August 14, where she will take part in the Rose of Tralee Festival which continues until Wednesday, 19th. The Festival will air live on Monday and Tuesday next, with RTE 1’s coverage beginning at 9.30 pm. ATHLETE WITH MONAGHAN CONNECTIONS WINS GOLD

Congratulations to Kevin McGrath, a Meath athlete with Monaghan connections. Kevin, who represents Bohermeen Athletics Club won gold yesterday in the 1,500 metres at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Tbilisi, Georgia. Kevin is son of Paula and Eamon McGrath and grandson of Seamus and Bernie McConnon, Old Cross Square. Kevin entered the race with the fastest personal best. He took control with just over 200 metres to go and powered through to win with ease.

By Veronica Corr The Northern Standard has learned that thirty jobs are to be created at Castleross Nursing Home, Carrickmacross. This week owner and manager of the facility Paul McCoy explained that the thirty jobs will be created across the disciplines of nursing care, carers and housekeeping. Castleross offers two services, a nursing home and a retirement village. The nursing home is based on a household model of care. There were four households and now there will be five. Bed numbers will rise from 98 to 123 and each resident has their own en-suite ...

CLONES HANDBALL LEGEND REMEMBERED

A large crowd attended a tree planting and plaque unveiling ceremony in Clones on Thursday evening last in honour of All Ireland winning handball legend, the late Seamus McCabe. Pictured at the event are L-R Seamus’ sisters Moira Heaton and Veronica McCabe who planted the tree along with Cathaoirleach of Ballybay-Clones Municipal District Eugene Bannigan. The memorial plaque was unveiled by Monaghan footballer and grand-nephew of Seamus McCabe, Karl O’Connell.

CO MUSEUM HELPS MONAGHAN TOWN “STEP BACK IN TIME”

A new “Stepping Back In Time” street exhibition has been put in place in Monaghan Town in an initiative implemented by Monaghan Co Museum. A total of twenty images of vistas and views of locations in the county capital have been prominently erected in their modern day sites, allowing the viewer to contrast the past appearance of their locale with the present and partake in the time-travel journey of the display’s title. What is described as a “permanent outreach project exhibition” has been drawn from the Co Museum’s postcard collection. ...
