LOCAL EVENT DRIVES HOME ROAD SAFETY MESSAGE
Three hundred Transition Year students from schools in Carrickmacross, Castleblayney and Ballybay attended a road safety awareness programme in Iontas, Castleblayney on Tuesday. Emergency personnel including representatives from the gardai, fire and ambulance services presented to the students the stark reality of dealing with road traffic crashes and how they impact on lives. Sinn Féin MEPs Martina Anderson and Matt Carthy will be bringing a task force of MEPs from the European Parliament to Ireland this week on a fact finding mission to see at first hand the impact Brexit will have on Ireland, North and South. MONAGHAN SISTERS BRING COLOUR TO ART COMPETITION
Texaco Children’s Art Competition adjudicator Colleen Watters pictured during judging of entries in this year’s competition, the results of which will be announced mid-April. In her hand is an entry by 16-year old Lauren McKenna entitled ‘My vivid imagination’ and two others by her 18-year old sister Rachel McKenna, entitled ‘Ashton Irwin’ and ‘Ed Sheeran’. Both are pupils at St. Louis Secondary School, Monaghan Town. Prizes will be presented at a ceremony that takes place in Dublin in May.
