SIGNED, SEALED AND SOON TO BE DELIVERED… CONTRACTORS ON SITE AT THE KAVANAGH CENTRE

By Veronica Corr The signing of contracts for Phase I of the refurbishment of the Patrick Kavanagh Centre, Inniskeen took place on Monday afternoon in the Civic Offices, Carrickmacross.

The winning contractors, Monaghan County Council members and officials, members of the Patrick Kavanagh Centre’s committee and a representative of Fáilte Ireland were present. Here is what the stakeholders had to say on the day: David Cullivan, Gaffney and Cullivan Architects told The Northern Standard: “We are the design team leaders for the refurbishment… We’ve now got the job to site. The plan is to get it ready for a museum fitout, the second phase already in motion. We are working with the designers of that to get it all done at the same time, more or less. “It should be absolutely fantastic. The thing that struck me — as a fan of Kavanagh’s poetry — when I walked down to meet the committee, I didn’t realise that the church is the church that features in the poetry itself. So, to have an exhibition centre that has a link back not only to the person, but to the literature — it’s massive!
