MONAGHAN SOLIDARITY WITH NURSES AS INDUSTRIAL ACTION ESCALATES

Motions were passed at Monday’s meeting of Monaghan Co Council expressing solidarity with the members of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation currently engaged in industrial action, and calling on the Government to enter into talks with a view to resolving the dispute. INMO members were on the picket line again at Monaghan Hospital on Tuesday. Another 24- hour work stoppage was scheduled for today, Thursday with more planned for next week.

Urgent business motions on the issue were submitted to Monday’s meeting of the Co Council by Independent representative Paudge Connolly and by the Sinn Féin grouping. Councillor Connolly told the meeting that they all knew that the industrial action commenced by the INMO last week had started to intensify, and would impact on day surgery and respite. He…
