FALLEN TREES AND POWER OUTAGES AS ‘STORM ALI’ LEAVES ITS MARK ON MONAGHAN

“STORM ALI” left a trail of havoc in its wake as it swept across Ireland yesterday, Wednesday, reaching its peak in this part of the country in the hours between 8am and lunchtime. It brought tragedy to Armagh, where a man in his 20s was killed in the Slieve Gullion Park area of Newry and another man in his 40s was seriously injured when a tree fell on their car and at around midday.

Earlier, a woman was killed in the Clifden area of Galway when the caravan she was sleeping in was blown from a cliff and onto a beach at around 7.45am. The man who lost his life in the Newry incident was reported to have been working as an engineer for the Northern Ireland Water Utility, while the woman who died in Galway had been visiting the area from Europe…
