The Government has been accused by Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan/Monaghan Niamh Smyth of turning its back on families facing school transport difficulties. The prospect of children being forced into the “major upheaval” of changing schools in order to comply with current school transport guidelines was raised by Deputy Smyth, who said the Government was “letting families down” over its handling of the allocation of places under the School Transport Scheme. “I am calling on the Education Minister to ensure that children are treated fairly when it comes to places on the School Transport Scheme,” Deputy Smyth told the Northern Standard yesterday. “We need the introduction of a School Transport Guarantee to ensure no child loses their place on board a school bus if they have been allocated a concessionary seat in either junior infants…
