FEARS THAT ROADWORKS WILL BE ABANDONED BECAUSE OF PRICES BEING SOUGHT BY CONTRACTORS

• Michael McDonnell GROWING CONCERNS about the deterioration of regional and smaller local roads throughout the county were voiced in a lengthy and at times hottempered discussion at Monday’s May monthly meeting of Monaghan Co Council — where it was agreed that many smaller roads were now in an “atrocious” condition, and where fears were expressed that possible significant increases in tender quotes from contractors could result in many improvement projects being scrapped or postponed. The first clash of swords while the matter was being debated took place when Fine Gael’s David Maxwell accused PJ O’Hanlon of Fianna Fáil of telling lies about the amount….
