MONAGHAN COMMUNITY AND IRISH SOCCER SPHERE MOURNING DEATH OF SEÁN MCCAFFREY

The deep sense of grief and loss evident in the Monaghan community since the news of the passing of Sean McCaffrey at Cavan General Hospital on December 30 has been reflected at all levels among the Irish soccer fraternity.

From Annaghlough, Castleshane, 58-year-old Mr McCaffrey made an indelible impact on soccer development at local, regional and national level. A seminal figure in the foundation of the Monaghan United club, he was also a founder of Oriel Celtic and his influence as a coach and manager bore fruit in the number of players who rose to represent their country at senior international level having had their nascent talent brought to full flower under his tutelage.
