EIRGRID SAYS THERE’S A SHIFT IN PUBLIC ACCEPTANCE FOR INTERCONNECTOR

There has been a shift in local support for the North South electricity interconnector, according to EirGrid, since it got planning permission for the major infrastructure project in the Republic last December. Meanwhile the semi-state company is pushing ahead with its plans in order to begin construction of the high voltage overhead line in the middle of next year.

Following information obtained by the County Monaghan Anti Pylon Committee, EirGrid confirmed it had issued a public tender for the 410 steel pylons to be used in the interconnector that would stretch from Woodland in Co. Meath to Turleenan near Moy in Co. Tyrone. According to the CMAPC, EirGrid put out a statement on its website with lame excuses about the reason.
