“SCUMBAGS” MAKING PEOPLE’S LIVES A MISERY IN MONAGHAN TOWN PARK

The patience of the people and political representatives of Monaghan Town with public drinking and anti-social behaviour activities by individuals who congregate in an area of the scenic Peter’s Lake park in the centre of the county capital has reached an end.

This was the clear message emanating from Monday’s meeting of the Monaghan Municipal District when the Gardaí were called upon to step up patrols in the area and implement the heavy fines for public drinking applicable under town bye-laws.

Those responsible for the behaviour were referred to as “scumbags” on several occasions during the discussion. Incidents in which emergency services and local authority officials had to be called when inebriated persons became trapped after falling in the park were referred to during a debate which arose…
