DEPUTIES EXPRESS CONCERNS TO MINISTER OVER PROPOSED INTERCONNECTOR STUDY

Deputies from three constituencies in Cavan/Monaghan and Meath affected by the proposed EirGrid interconnector have held a meeting with Communications Minister Denis Naughten about the terms of reference recently announced by his Department for a new study on the overhead pylon project.

Four Ministers including Heather Humphreys TD attended the briefing at Leinster House by their Cabinet colleague. Afterwards the two Fianna Fáil Deputies for Cavan/Monaghan along with Senator Robbie Gallagher from Monaghan expressed their concerns.

Deputy Niamh Smyth said she was exasperated after the meeting. She said they had appealed to Minister Naughten to implement the Fianna Fáil motion on the interconnector study passed by the Dáil and Seanad.
