“HANG YOUR HEADS IN SHAME!” – COLR O’HANLON ATTACKS FG CO COUNCILLORS OVER ROADS FUNDING SITUATION

The Fine Gael members of Monaghan Co Council should “hang your heads in shame” in relation to the decrease in funding for roads upkeep in the county, Fianna Fáil local public representative P J O’Hanlon stated on Monday.

The South Monaghan councillor was giving vent at the local authority’s July meeting to frustration over correspondence received from Minister for Transport Pascal Donohoe TD which declined to meet a Co Council delegation to discuss funding for regional and local roads.

There were some lively exchanges as the FG members sought to refute Colr O’Hanlon’s attack, and when the dust settled there was agreement to Colr O’Hanlon’s proposal, seconded by his party colleague Pádraig McNally, to renew the call on Minister Donohoe to meet a delegation to discuss the roads funding situation, with the five TDs for the Cavan/Monaghan constituency to be present at the meeting. A complementary proposal from Colm Carthy (Sinn Féin), asking Minister Donohoe to indicate dates when he would be available to meet the Council, was also agreed, with Hugh McElvaney (FG) adding the proviso that the meeting with the Minister should take place after his Dept received ….
